On a recent episode of [The Squatcher's Lounge Podcast], where we discussed tools and what they are, we referenced the crow that fashioned a hook out of a straight piece of wire:
This feat, while simple, shows the crow to have imagined the straight wire as something other than is was. Some say that this is no different than a chimpanzee selecting a stick to fashion into a spear or a Homo erectus finding the appropriate rocks to create stone cutting tools.
Crows, ravens and other songbirds are also able to string together complex tasks. In this next video, a crow called '007' completes a series of tasks to reach his food goal... and then [I'm assuming] makes love to a beautiful counter-agent-lady-crow.
I, for one, welcome our avian overlords!
